Sennbix
Looking for a safe, reasonably priced (cheapish) sun filter for my Celestron 130 EQ. If anyone could advise me on this would much appreciate.
nightfisher
For a start, AVOID any you see on ebay that fit into the eyepiece, they are dangerous, most people make white light solar filters that fit onto the aperture end of the telescope, FLO sell the film, then its a case of making a holder to fit over the scope, best advice is to do a search in the DIY section on here
oldpink
http://www.firstlightoptics.com/solar-filters/astrozap-baader-solar-filter.html£41, similar to the one I use and it works well
ronl
Or make your own http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p014hpkh and with what'sleft over make one for your finder, but make a shield to go over the middle so youdon't look at the Sun directly while trying to find it. Floater
Cheapest, 'most economical' is the sheet of Baader filter.Whatever you do, don't skimp on cost when your eye(s) are at stake.I bought the proprietary filter 'cos I'm not good at DIY ... Andrew W
it's a little 'Heath Robinson' but here's a youtube vid of a simple but effective one.The other bit of info I've seen is becuase the sun is so bright you dont have to make the filter aperture as large as the scopes. if your scope cap has a removeable middle section you can probably make a filter just to cover the central section. hope that make sense.
