I had to come down to London on some business, so on Mon night I got on the overnight bus from Glasgow
normally I try to sleep all the way down but this time I stayed awake for the first part of the journey

around 1:30 we pulled in for a service stop at Tebay on the M6 and in the middle of nowhere
I walked up to the end of th carpark and with the lights behind me I looked up

took me about 10 seconds to focus but first thing I seen was the Plough shining ever so bright
30 seconds later as I turned I saw the Milky Way spread across the sky for the first time in about 20 years
a truly wonderful sight

its spurred me on so when I get home the first clear night I'm off to the Galloway Forest
really was quite stunning seeing the stars in a black sky rather than the orange glow I have for a sky I have become used to

Yes, it's truly beautiful. You know, I think for years I thought if was a thin cloud until one day it dawned on me what it was. I was a bit embarrassed really. I'm lucky I can see it pretty clearly from about 10* from each horizon from home. It's wondrous when you think about it. Makes you feel pretty small actually. Nice alright.
