Just got a good deal on a canon 1100d from currys and I wanna connect it up to my scope. Being a complete novice can someone point me in the direction of adapters and fittings on how to go about this please.

Do you connect up through the eyepiece or straight out the back of the ota?

Thanks for looking and any advise will be greatly appreciated

Hi Riggers,

You will need one of these: - http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adaptors/celestron-sct-t-adapter.html

This replaces the diagonal on the back of the OTA...

You will also need one of these for your camera: - http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adaptors/t-rings.html

The Canon EOS version.

Finally, you will need to get a remote shutter release... lots available on E-bay.

Hope this helps.

Best regards.

Sandy.

The first item probably not. The 127 SLT is the same ota as the Skywatcher 127 Mak which uses a smaller thread. Depending on how the diagonal is attached to the visual back you might only need a suitable t ring for you camera. The Skywatcher version uses a short tube which has a female thread to match the visual back and a male t thread on the reverse end, the SLT probably does too.

yeah as it turned out i only needed the camera adaptor as the thread on the adaptor already on the scope screws straight onto the canon piece.

thanks for the replies guys.

But can you achieve focus with your 1100 with only the short extension?

A mak focuses by moving the primary mirror so will have limited range.

Hope it works for you.

Best Regards.

Haven't tried it out yet but I did buy both adapters but the extension part didn't fit onto the scope anyway so it is the wrong part for my scope. Just waiting for clear skies

Maks have more focus range than you can throw a stick at. With the standard extension tube there so be no problem.

If you want to make the process even easier you could use a laptop with software like Backyard EOS. You can then operate the camera and amend all it's settings etc from the laptop and, of course, you have a much bigger screen to help focus. You can take AVIs in BYE as well. You can try out BYE for a month before deciding whether you want to buy but it's very reasonably priced. You then would not need a remote shutter release for the camera. I use BYE and I would not use my 550d without it for astros using the telescope. There is also API software that's free to use.

I would also recommend getting a Bahtinov mask to help you focus accurately. http://www.firstlightoptics.com/bahtinov-focus-masks/starsharp-bahtinov-focus-masks.htm
