What to look for if the forecast of clear skies is accurate!

Recommended Posts

Since buying my 10x50 binoculars and tripod, I've had nothing but cloudy skies. If the forecast for mainly clear skies tomorrow and Friday is correct, can I have a few suggestions for easy to find objects to fit into an hour of viewing?

Thanks!

I have just got my 10x50's and M44 is easy to find and a sight to behold.  Jupiter is good and you can see at least one of the moons if you look close enough - give your eyes time to adjust.  M44 and Jupiter are a nice first combo I thought as they are close to each other and both are rewarding in terms of what you see (don't expect to see the colours on jupiter or anything but to see another planet's moons some 600,000,000 km or so away is pretty exciting!)

Download Stellarium if you haven't already and set you bins up in there so you can get an idea of what things might look like through them.  I use this to find targets and then Cartes du Ciel to print out charts to help me find them
