Can anyone tell me if the pleiades will fill the FOV of a William Optics 2013 ZenithStar 71mm at 400mm ? or would a 600mm focal length be better?

My 560mm SV80ED is perfect for that DSO. 600mm or 400mm would still give you plenty of composition room. Don't forget you can crop in post.

This is at 560mm and just slightly cropped using a full frame dslr.

And this is at 420mm and just cropped slightly

You can use a program like Stellarium and input your scope's focal length and camera sensor's pixel size to predetermine what you'll get before you start imaging. Works great for composing as well.

Not a very good image but this was with my EOS 300D at 300mm. It may have been cropped a little.

Hi Neil,

What is the size of the sensor? If you are using a DSLR then the whole M45 will fit in the FOV of 182 X 121 arcminutes.

yes but I want it to FILL the FOV so I don't have to crop too much and lose image quality.

It fills the frame of my Atik 428EX using my ZS71 and the MK6 FF/FR.

This was a quick 20 second single frame with the WOZS71 to give an idea of scale uncropped with canon DSLR.
