Refractor eye diagonal upgrade

Recommended Posts

I am  looking to upgrade the Diagonal that comes with the SW Startravel 6" refractor,  due to it having no compression ring fitted with the standard diagonal  that comes with the scope,

I have been scanning most astro shops looking reading and realizing there is a big price range on star diagonals from £70, to £300  ,

Like most of us I would like to get the best out of my scope! ,

What would you recommend for a good all-round 1/12"  2" 90% diagonal push fit, Price range £100 to £150  :confused2: ,

They all seem to claim 99% better viewing but are they really? ,

Your valid advice would be much appreciated  ,

Ian.

I have 2" diagonals that range from £70 to around £250 to buy new. The overall build of the more expensive ones is a little better but the cheaper ones are entirely satisfactory and, optically, I can see no differences between them. That Opticron unit is a very good buy I reckon - Opticron and Vixen are linked and the latter have a great reputation for quality astro optics.

While this unit is at the top end on price its got a Click-Lock and having used it i would not go back to a normal compression ring type, the mirror as with all type is 99% light transmission and has  a bit UV and IR rejection......
