Well, I have tried to do the "thought experiment". Presumably the moon is "upside down" and the "waxing & waning directions" are reversed? But then I've always fancied viewing those EQUATORIAL skies - And for many reasons.

Presumably this could be checked quickly using Stellarium or similar and setting your location to the southern hemisphere? Don't have it handy at the moment....

By my way of thinking the terminator will be on the opposite side but the moon will just appear upside down. :shock: If you were to turn the first picture upside down that would be how I would think it should look. :?

The first picture is a waning moon as seen by the naked eye from the northern hemisphere.

The second picture is a waxing moon as seen from the northern hemisphere.

To obtain a southern hemisphere view, both, including the detail on the face, should be turned upside down.

I hope thats right!

Just read this thread.

Does the Moon do a 'flip' as one crosses the equator? Could get some interesting images with a video camera going North to South and back again across 'The Line'.
