Tracking mount help?

RIght...

I have the skywatcher 127 Mak cas 'supatrak' telescope, so its got a strange keypad with 4 arrows and takes ages to do anything. I was wandering, if I got a goto keypad and put that in the socket rather than the other one would the scope 'become a goto system' - well would it work first of all?

Sorry do not know wheher goto keypad would work on your Alt/Az mount but I  wonder if your "strange keypad" is set in the slowest speed mode, I believe  it has three speeds. You may find this interesting http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/60917-skywatcher-skymax-127-auto-supatrak/

I believe that it can, but the handset needs to be flashed to alt az mode.  I think you use the eq6 alt az firmware

The Synscan handset will work with the Supatrak mount. The handset needs to be flashed with the latest firmware V3.35 or the older az firmware. You need to change the speed of the mount.

It is a 2 key press and the mount will move at a higher set of rates, then you put it back into the "normal" mode.

The high speed option is for going to the next object, the slow speed mode is to centre the object once found.

It is in tne manual page 7 and 8 of your manual.

Press Guide and Slow to go to the fast option,

Press Guide and Slow to revert to tracking, and the lower rates.

I assume that it does not track at sidereal in the high speed mode.

It is a toggle operation.

Some button flashes. Skywatcher are a little unsure it seems on which one.
