Building your own scope?

I'm gonna build my own scope, starting in the summer sometime, as a hobby, and I figured I'd start with a small reflector to learn how things are done, before I build what I really want. Is this a good way to start? Where would be a good place to look for materials and whatnot? I would also like the equations.

Are you planning on grinding your own mirrors, or buying these up-front, if so what size reflector are you planning on making?

I'd like to learn how to grind the mirror myself, but am not opposed to just buying one and building the actual scope parts. I want to start with something like a 6 inch scope.  As I said, I want to learn stuff and have fun.

You will meet loads of like minded folk, some of them hopefully will have made scopes and can give a lot of hints & tips.  May even have scope bits to sell.
