Scope being replaced

My nice shiny new celestron astromaster 114eq has to go back under warranty. It's ridiculous...the only fault is one of the locking screws is threaded on one of the slow motion cables which I just asked for a replacement slow motion handle but no: "we do not replace parts of kits..." So the lot has to go back and they've sent me out a new replacement. Seems a bit daft to send a whole kit out when all I need is the handle

I think its so the supplier can send it back to the manufacturer and claim their money back due to faulty goods.

It does make you wonder sometimes, it seems a bit OTT for a simple cable.

I hope the replacement turns up soon, you know the clouds will go whilst your waiting.

They said they can't replace parts in kits. I don't know whether to just swap the cable over myself. They haven't said I can't swap it over

I guess that's where shops come into their own, they would have just swapped the cable. It gets a little more complicated via the internet.

Is it daft that I don't want to replace the whole scope? It's almost sentimental that this scope is the first time I saw the brown bands and moons of Jupiter. All I need is the handle but don't know if they're serial numbered or anything.

If it was pretty much anything else I'd be thinking great a shiny new one

I expect they don't get sent spare parts... just full kits.... so removing bits from a kit would not be economic for them.

Running a spare parts operation would cost the importers a lot of money... cheaper to just ship a new box.
