I hate the cold ! arrrggghhh

Recommended Posts

This may be more of a DIY project, but the on the gadget show a few weeks ago, they made their own heated jacket by stripping out the heater wires from an electric blanket, stitching them into a ski jacket and running it all from a lipo battery. They even wired in a temp probe and a temp control system!

Failing that, take a look at www.dragoncarpdirect.com, plenty of warm clothing and it's not horrifically priced either.

I've mentioned it before in another post, but electric underwear is the way to go. There is a German make that is really good but costs an arm and a leg, I know cos I brought it for my wifey to go under her motorcycling kit. But there is a much cheaper alternative from Maplins, the jacket costing around 37 quid and it works well, kept me toasty warm the other night.

Nothing cuts an observing session short for me quite as quickly as having frozen feet. It doesn't matter how many thermal socks I wear or how thick the fluffy lining of the boot - after a couple of hours that's it. So a couple weeks ago I bought some EXO electrically heated insoles, Bliss! Toasty toes for 7hrs or more and a smile on my face :)

I tell you what, nevermind all this fancy ski outerwear, half of it isn't necessary. The most you'll probably need is a thick coat from like, mountain warehouse or somewhere.  You want a couple of t-shirts, a hoodie, a few pairs of socks and maybe a pair of trackie bottoms over your jeans or something. Aside from that, a good hat and scarf will do you wonders- you'll be too warm, if anything :p

   <--- That's me after 10 minutes at 0ºc

Anyone have any recommendations on specific jackets and or other attire I can buy with my crimbo money that are very good? North face or sommet? I've never been an outdoor person and just run back inside like tonight lol

Haven't even got my heq5 yet and won't be able to setup if I can't get past the cold!

Help! :icon_rendeer:

Just checked the Wigan weather which says it's currently (1pm) 8 degrees C or 46 degrees F. Haven't seen temps that high since November. Wigan overnight mins are forecast only to be around 0 C or 32 F. That's rather mild. Anyway, cold is relative. If you're near the sea and especially with any sort of breeze the chill can go right through you. The trick to any kind of cold is layers of clothing. Don't be thinking a single heavy jacket or shirt will do the trick. Two or three T-shirts will keep you much warmer but you need to consider a good material for the outermost layer.

Personally I wear an old pair of ski pants over my pants for my legs, with a T-shirt, vest, hoodie and jacket and don't forget a warm hat. I don't use the jacket or hat unless it's less than about -5c. Sometimes I wear shoes but frequently get lazy if I'm just imaging from my sundeck and just wear my slippers. If the temp gets to -20 or lower, then I also wear long underwear for my legs. In recent years we rarely get temps that low anymore.

Bottom line, wear layers along with a good outer shell.

I really feel the cold and wanted to solve that problem -  bought some army surplus gear a month age - 'Softie' thermal jacket and trousers....

I wear them over the top of normal trousers & a few layers - highly recommend. The proprietor is a great guy as well. :)

I'm hoping they will double up as a suit to crash out in as well on camping trips...

There's plenty of good, cheap gear to keep you toasty these days. As others have mentioned an insulated carp fishing bib & brace or insulated skiing sallopettes are a good start. The high front/back design are good for me as it's always my back & neck that get cold!

Another thing worth looking for is cold store clothing.

Thought about trying my luck after work tonight. Was done at midnight and walking to the car the skies were very clear. Slight wind.

After getting home and seeing this, I changed my mind. Bad part is I didn't think it was that cold. Must be getting used to it.
