Second Telescope

Hey Guys

       I currently own a Celestron 114 LCM  and now thinking of buying a second telescope. However I have a very low budget ( roughly about £100 - £150)  does anyone have any suggestions for a good scope. ( I have been looking at the Celestron Astomaster 130 )

114 to 130 is probably not enough of an increase to be worth spending money on that. I'd save your money and wait until you can go to 6" or 8" as the next step.

+1 jnb          In about 4 weeks time, there will be a few astronomers looking at selling, due to upgrades.  A 6"+ would see you right. check here http://www.pulsar-optical.co.uk/prod/telescopes/sky-watcher/dobsonians/skyliner-150.html or at FLO the sponsors of this site. An 8" gets better, 10" even better and so on!

To be honest I don't think you would see a big improvement if you moved up to a 130. If I was you I would save a bit more cash and then go for a 150 mm scope or even a 200 mm

Another vote for a 6" or 8". Second hand will make your cash go further.

HI, as Charic says in about 4 weeks some astronomers may well be upgrading.

I'm in Essex and in January will be offloading an 8inch Celestron newt on a cg5 mount as I've ordered  a Celestron EdgeHD 8 on an AVX mount so I can concentrate on astro pics in some dark sites and this rig is more portable. I spoke to a guy from Celestron at an astro roadshow in Bury St. Edmunds and he says that it will not arrive until January.

I'm going to put it on Ebay along with all the others that will be offloaded at this time of year.

Well worth waiting so that you can upgrade to at least a six or maybe an eight inch newt.

I agree best to wait for a 6 or preferably 8 inch newt eg the Skywatcher 200 dob. Good aperture and a very stable mount and not too expensive.
