EQdir cable

I have read through several posts on the EQdir cable and it has left me slightly confused (quite normal for me)

I have an EQ8 that i am controlling through an EQdir cable that came with the mount, it plugs into my powered  USB hub then to the mount!  it's the only EQdir cable i have and need a spare at least!

As i understand it, i can i make my own, however I'm not sure if it has to be 3.3 volt or 5 volt!

Anyone help with that info and the parts i need?

It's 3.3v but even I didn't make my own for fear of making a mistake and blowing up my nice new mount.  I got mine from FLO http://www.firstlightoptics.com/astronomy-cables-leads-accessories/hitecastro-eqdir-adapter.html.  I didn't get one included with the mount.
