hi im fairly new to astronomy and have had a sky watcher dobsonian 150p however as Christmas is coming ive been offered a skywatcher Skyhawk 1145p synscan  does anyone know if the Skyhawk is better than the dobsonian ??

it would be better in terms of generally lighter, possibly smaller and with tracking but the 150mm dob would visually outperform the 114 in all areas.

I'd sooner have the 150mm dob any day.

The 150 would be better, you get 73% light gathering increase.

If you are getting on with the 150 then there seems little reason to go smaller, unless the goto was essential.

valvenus...........Hi, if the offer still stands, is it possible to try before you buy? That way, only you can tell, but at present, you`ll be getting leass than you already have?  The Dob you have has better light capture and the new EQ  tripod mount takes some getting used too. If you like the Dob, and the offer is for a new telescope, see if the offer extends to a 200P Dob.
