Can you use a Wixey on an EQ mount

The subject heading says it all really.

I am aware that some people use a Wixey to assess the angle they are viewing at and I think this would be quite useful when it comes to locating stars by eye, the Dec Circle is so inaccurate.

However, can a wixey still calculate the angle when it is upside down, sideways etc etc as it would sometimes be if you stuck it to the side of the OTA on an EQ mount.

I may be wrong on how these Wixey's work but I think if you could just use it to find the altitude of the star at least you would be able to get in the ballpark of those hard to find objects.

The Wixey measures tilt along the length of its base (left-right as you look at its display) so would need to be repositioned at intervals so that it is not tilted onto its face/back.

Fortunately, being magnetic, it can be stored in a pocket and quickly attached for a reading at any time.

Hi Steve,

Do you have any ideas on how I could attach one of these to an aluminium OTA?

Tape some button magnets inside the tube, paint it black to reduce reflection (or use black electricians tape), mark the outside of the tube where the magnets are so you know where to attach the wixey. Away you go
