With the super track skywatcher AZ mount, does it need aligning, or just a case of pointing north leg to north

Just power it up with the OTA horizontal and pointing north, and it should be fine. I don't think the tripod alignment matters. Didn't seem to make any difference on the one I had.

I have this mount and theres no need to align any of the legs, I just align it with Polaris, turn off an on again then away we go

cheers, seems a handy little mount, is it ok to move the OTA manually as well as with the slewing

not unless they have changed it as far as I know it has no clutches so its permanently linked to the drives

I wouldn't recommend moving it manually at all. You can kind of get away with moving it up and down, but left to right is definitely a nono as it comes out of the box.

I did see someone once say that if you loosen off a couple of the bolts on the mount you can decrease resistance to slew it manually (and visa versa if it feels too loose) but I havn't tried this myself as Im quite happy with the standard way of working it......for now
