File types for stacking

Recommended Posts

I always convert my RAW frames to 16-TIFFs before feeding them to Reg 5.1 ( can't get on with V6 personally)

Never had a problem memory-wise , even when opening 300+ frames to preview or stacking 150+

Sounds more like a computer shortcoming to me .

I tried Deep Sky Stacker using both RAW and TIFF files from my Canon 650D.

Individualy the images are correct and show stars (sharp too thanks to using Backyard EOS focussing), but when stack they seem to come out as a negative, so the image appears mostly white.

Have you tried adjusting levels/curves on the image from DSS? Sounds like these are DSO images, so DSS is the prog to use, you do need to adjust the image it outputs though. A quick search will find plenty of DSS tutorials.
