What format to post the photos

Hi,

The last two captures that I posted were displayed really badly on the forum, the originals are much better. What is the best format fo rposting pictures here?

I post mine as jpgs at about 1200 x 800 ish and try and keep the size no more than 0.2 - 0.3 Mb. There's always a loss in resolution and quality which I haven't found a way around, other more computer savvy folks might be able to help.

I always finish off a process by opening the picture in 'Paint' and saving the TIFF file as a PNG for forums ( or 800x800 JPGs for across the Pond).

I'm sure there are other ways to do it , I just found this easy when starting out.

I find it better to then load the shots into Photobucket for easy linking of images onto forums ,

I personally don't like having to click on numerous links in a posted thread just to find an image .

I resize and then resharpen all my master images to around 1000px on the long side and then save them as a jpg around 200kb in size. There are free programmes like the Faststone image viewer that will do this for you.

Sharpen the image very last thing you do then save as a jpeg at least 850x650 at 300 dpi
