Meade LX90 warning

Recommended Posts

Hi all. This may have been mentioned previously, however I think it's worth a warning to those who have a recent model Meade SCT.

I was at a friends house, viewing through his very recent purchase of a Meade 8" LX90 ACF scope. We noticed that a check on a defocused star showed that the collimation was clearly off, obvious skewed diffraction rings.

My friend had never collimated a scope, so asked me to help.

The supplied instruction manual said to sort it with the 3 screws on the outer edge of the secondary holder. When we looked, there are six screws on the secondary holder. An internet search found this -

It seems that late model LX90s have a modified secondary holder with 6 screws. Its the inner 3 that adjust collimation.

We sorted the collimation easily, using the 3 inner screws.

If your Meade has only 3 screws on the secondary holder, then this post does not apply.

Hope that helps those who have just purchased a Meade SCT.

Regards, Ed.
