Collimation of Celestron C8 SCT

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have recently purchsed a regular C8 SCT faststar version ( about 10 year old) I am having difficulty collimating. When I take off the secondary faststar mirror assembly I can see the three colimation screw directly go into the mirror backplate. That backplate and mirror then pivot on a central spigot.

Now unlike my Meade SCT there are no springs arround the collimation screws to provide any tension durring adjustment. The screws when adjusted are either locked or there is mirror is loose and flops. In other words they work in push pull mode.

Some time in the past Bob's knobs have been fitted and I am wondering if any springs were left out when reassembled.

Should there be springs fitted?

Thanks Frederick
