You can buy a HEQ5 synscan GoTo upgrade kit.....

But if you already have a syntrak mount you can just add a GOTO handset, and you can use it as a GOTO. These are around £100-150, but make sure you get the EQ not the AZ handset.

For the money of the upgrade kit it may be worth selling your mount and buying a secondhand HEQ5 Pro Synscan GOTO mount. Normally around £500 secondhand.

Is the skywatcher system the only one available are there other systems that would be compatible with this type of mount?

AWR also do a goto kit for the HEQ5 http://www.awrtech.c.../ih/ih_heq5.htm , not cheap.

As you say,that is not a cheap upgrade,

considering the cost a new mount.
