Are there any ways to make my existing tripod sturdier? I know i can get a tripod to reduce the shaking a little bit. Can I purchase just the Equatorial part of the mount with out a tripod?

I do not think so Ryan, occasionally they may come up on the s/h market, more so with the CG-5, try steadying things up a little by hanging some bags of sand or some weights from the center of the tripod, this often helps, otherwise you are into DIY with making a strong sturdy wooden tripod and mounting the head of your existing unit onto it, alternatively you could try sourcing a s/h surveyors tripod, the old wooden ones are the best :)

John.
