5 Serpentis - HIP 74975

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I've imaged messier 5 (My second DSO  ) and underneath M5 I saw hip 74975 (I believe),

which should be only one star according to Stellarium and some other pictures I saw in the web.

But when I imaged this star I could see two stars.

Suggestions?

Yes, it's a double with mags ca. 5 and 11, with a separation of about 11.5 arcsec.

Thanks guys,

I've got the new version of stellarium but cant see a double star... Are you using any kind of plugins?

The interesting thing is that in this picture hip 74975 seems to be only one star!

You need to load all the star catalogues, centre the diplay on 5 Ser by clicking on it, and then keep pressing ctrl Upkey to magnify the image to show the fainter companion.

Its a Double in my Stellarium 0.12.0 take the FOV into 0.0800,,,,nice split then....

Double in mine also (older version - I haven't updated).

You need to keep on enlarging the image up to see the fainter companion though.
