Have I got this right? Meteor/meteorite

Is it a meteor once it enters the atmosphere and breaks up then disintegrates and a meteorite is if it hits the ground?

I've also heard its not officially a meteorite until its found, is that right too?

I believe so. I don't know about the last question but I suppose it could be argued you don't know it's hit the ground until someone finds it.
