The other thing that was mentioned on their web site was the fact that if anything goes wrong with the equipment, they have humans up there who can attempt to fix it. Plus they can send spares or upgrades up in one of the resupply flights. The idea has it's merits. Should be interesting to see how they get on?

It's NASA, surely you didn't think they'd just send the vanilla model up? Just look at how many NASA boffins surrounding it, do you think they can resist the urge to stripped it apart and the upgraded what they think can be upgrading.

It's a CPC925 equipped with Hyperstar and Starlight instrument microtouch focuser.

PS.The C925 club members can now brag about how one of its brother is working as a NASA space telescope :D

Good job the Earth is so bright with the blooming great DSLR blocking out most of the light!

Yeah they go all posh with a gold-plated bells 'n' whistles 'scope, then cheapskate with a DSLR. For shame

The did go for the top of the range model (APS-C format) rather than the cheaper 1100d or 600d. However, I'd thought the smaller 1100d will work better with a hyperstar system.

Apparently they do this every year. They have this competition between the various departments to raise money for a local charity. The competition is to see how many people from each team they can get into the tumble drier.

As you can see from his expression, our Spock look-alike drew the short straw and has to go in first! :p

And just think of all the problems they'll have with air currents if they try to use it from inside. I hope no-one has suggested they just open a window and point it outside.

James

And imagine the thermal undies you're going to need for an extended session, if you have to stand outside for a while!
