Making binoculars from f5 refractors?

Don't remember seeing any pics of a setup like that Gaz, but a pair of ED80's sounds a fascinating prospect. For a start anyway.

It would need to be a joint excercise by two ED80 owners. If it proved viable, doable, and completely successful, and why wouldn't it?.

The second refractor could then be purchased once the experiment has succeeded.

I'd guess you've have to deal with collimation between the two scopes and hope the aberations present in each lens were at least reasonably similar???

There's also the issue of getting the two incoming light paths parallel - so the bigger your aperture the more of the tubes you will have to cut down ... unless you have a significantly larger IPD than normal humans

would this not be possible if one used a pair of finderscope adjustable rings and joined them somehow, so you could then adjust them quite easy using the six screws on each,no?

Those things are expensive! I did knock up a PST binoscope once and was seriously impressed with it. Sold it though

Oh yes, my trombone, theres a blast from the past! WH was right, 2x 90 degree diagonals would give you all the flexibility you need, but the problem would be getting them lined up enough to stop you getting a headache. Worth a shot if you happen to have 2 identical refractors at hand! Alternativly buy a pair of 25x100's
