Using a pair of AR5 telescopes as Binoculars

I have seen photos of this, but not looked through a set.

Any one have a experience with this combination?

Pro or cons to trying this?

Yes, I've made several binoculars using 4"- 6" aperture binoculars. They make amazingly good astronomical and terrestrial instruments. They end up pretty heavy and need a very substantial mount to carry them. The main constructional difficulties are translating the optical paths down to interpupillary distance and the achievement and maintenance of collimation.

Hi There,

Bought a pair of Bresser 127l's to make a big set of binos. Was able to get them mounted but in order to get the optical paths joined at a reasonable focus for me the bit of kit I needed was a dual gimbled mount and it was nearly £2k so I sold them!... Would have been a great result though, but probably a divorce...

I have done this with a pair of 90MM CATs before, but collimation was difficult. That is why I want to try a pair of refractors .

I kept one of the bresers for a while, on the az4.. I have a pic somewhere of the brace and the gimbled ep holder. I'll post am.

You don't need the expensive Helicoid type units to achieve interpupillary separation, just two 2" RA diagonals fitted together each side.
