The other night while taking the dog out I happened tolook up and was presented with an unfamiliar sight, a clear sky! Dog forgotten I grabbed my bins and walked the ten minute walk to my usual observing place, luxuriating in the coming treat I rolled a fag in one minute flat and pointed the bins at horizon to horizon cloud that had boiled up while I rolled my fag. The sheep in the next field were treated to the sight of a strange man jumping up and down swearing frenzidly at the sky. Back at the house I unburdened myself of my disapointment to the missus, she looked at me and I thought I could see comiseration at my plight in her eyes. "You should give up smoking." She said

You didn't say if after forgetting about the dog, you left him with the sheep.

Is he still there? Did he make his own way home?

Last I heard he had been offered a recording contract with EMI. Apparently the album is out in May

Smoking does reduce the blood flow to the retina (as does alcohol) so neither are good ideas for observing.

Having said that I always take a glass of wine out with me AND a fag (Till I gave up last year) so I'm not one to preach!!

What is it they say, not drinking or smoking doesn't actually make you live longer, it just seems like a long time.
