It's absolutely super! but a little small, any chance of a bigger one to see the detail?

Alexandra

Awe, you're very kind but I'm a deep sky imager bumbling along here. It really isn't presentable at any more than this size; http://ollypenrice.smugmug.com/Other/The-Sun/14803611_xQx4ZW#!i=2194425387&k=HdT2Gk5&lb=1&s=X2

I do quite like the colour, though, since I like my Suns to look hot! I spent some time on the illumination, getting it brighter in the centre and fading outwards, at least as best I could. I need to get on top of Registax as well.

This is nothing like the standard you set!

Heh, thanks but honestly the solar specialists on here get soooo much more detail. I think I've got the colour and illumination that I like and the joining on of the proms is coming along, but the disk detail is really mushy compared with what the solar imagers produce.

So, experts, do you use multi point alignment or a single box? And at capture what sort of gamma value do you go for on the disk? I'm keeping the gain very low. Good or bad?

Hi Olly,

Keep the gain at minimum, but you can adjust the gamma. A lower gamma will give more contrast and easier to focus and a high gamma will bring out the proms in the shot. It's a balance everyone has personal taste for. For the DMK41 100 is gamma default, I use a range between 70-100 for disc details and 120-250 for prominences. Each camera has a gamma setting unique to itself though. In my experience for surface detail it is best to use either Avistack 2 or Autostakkert 2 (surface). For my Full disc PST images I prefer to use Registax 5 multi alignment point, and prominences I use Autostakkert 2 or Registax 5. I think each stacking program has areas which it does best and you need to try them all and see which works best for you.

As regards a DSO, I wouldn't be able to find one let alone photograph one ;)

Regards

Alexandra

Thanks Alexandra, that's very helpful. I'll plug away at it.
