Interesting Meade LX50 on UK AB&S

If this is the 7" scope then it's a maksutov-cassegrain I believe, rather than the schmidt-cassegrain:

I'm not sure the current owner would know this !

They have a mixed reputation for optical quality but can be excellent planetary scopes.

The maksutov-cassegrain has a smaller secondary mirror and a longer focal length - F/15 compared to the schmidt-cassegrains (SCT's) F/10. The mak-cass was a rather specialised scope. Most LX50's were SCT's. If it's a good one it's an amazing bargain - I think they cost over £2,000 new !

Yes it could be a very good bargain for someone. But I suppose it is a case of buyer beware. It could be good, but on the other hand ....

Hope you get it Matt. If it is the mak-cass the cooldown time will be long so if it can be kept at or near to outside temp, that will help.

£250 for a 7" mak is a bargain, especially it's a Meade. 7" is unusual aperture for a SCT and the OTA length looks a bit long. It's probably a Mak. Should be a planet killer
