cotterless45
We were observing at the PSP using a 8 1/2" David Hinds in Dob 1600mm tube and a 10" Lightbridge .Both were tightly Barlow/laser collimated at the angle of viewing. We were pleasantly surprised not only to catch a transit of the pale GRS and it's perimeter outline, but a smaller spot to one side trailing along side it. We were at x200, then x400 with a lot of nudging. The seeing was excetionally clear.Anyone else with extra spot/s ?Patbloke sat there for 1/2 hour observing as he's never seen the GRS, festoons and the other thinner belts, neat,Nick. joe_coke
Wow, still trying to get that ticked off the list. Tell me did you view any colour? What would you describe it as?
cotterless45
The GRS has become a very pale shade , it's so pale, it would be difficult to asign a specific colour, being in the company of browns and red, it'll be a very light version. What is astounding is the many festoons , thinner belts and deep brown of the other belt and surface features. This is dependant on seeing conditions, some nights it can be very bad. Just keep plugging away!Nick.
DarkerSky
Nick, there's some interesting detail around the GRS at the mo. I last viewed the GRS on 7 October and there was a clump of darker material gathered up near the lower right of the GRS and touching down towards the EZ. It has only developed in the last few weeks. A transient feature I suspect.
