heq5 idle gear bolt

Well today I stripped my heq5 to give it a clean and regrease,

and while I was at it I decided to remove and clean the idle gear.

Well I made the mistake of not checking the attachment

and low and behold broke the bolt.

So I was wondering if anyone knows of a part no so I can

get a replacment or if anyone has a replacement from

a belt mod or something.

I now recognise the bolt, its the bolt that retains the idler gear between the motor gear and RA or DEC axis final gear. You may have to contact OVL if you have no luck here. If the end of the bolt has sheared you will also need to remove the broken end. Another option might be to clean up the end of the thread and recut it.

Cheers Peter, yeah I contacted OVL and will await what they say but had just wondering if

anyone here had one they no longer need, as I think the idle gear is redundant after a belt

mod and was presuming the likely hood was that the idle gear bolt was the same in the

Heq5 and Neq6.

I have drilled out some of the rest of the bolt and will finish removing it and

will possible get the bolt re-tapped, but the now shortness of the bolt may mean the locking

grub screw can't lock it into place if I reuse it.

Sorry to say but that bolt looks like a "special" with the length of bearing surface and distance between head and step machined precisely - so OVL would be the source of choise, if not you may have to hope someone has an HEQ5 broken for spares.

Cheers for that Rodger and Mike,

Yeah I must confess as soon as I looked at it I had that dawning realisation

that the bolt was 'special' part.

Cheers Mike for your offer, thats a very kind offer, I have already asked

an engineering company today and they said they should be able to

make one and that I should send the bolt off to them and I have ordered

a similar sized bolt to see if it will do although the thread is a little

short. If you'd ask the company to make another then that would

be great.
