Another week with a pretty intrusive moon ahead, but it may be a bit better towards the end of the week.

Anyone up for it, if we get a decent break in the clouds?

Will be there if at all possible. My newt is in dry dock at the mpment so it will be the Mak with me or maybe the TAL. Depends what the target opportunity is

Cloud is solid right now and the forecast is for cloud as well all night so I guess thats that.

Steve...the newt is in dry dock as the Moonlite focuser broke down. No idea what went wrong but the slo mo drive just failed. Moonlite are repairing it at the moment and fitting it with a stronger reduction unit to cope with heavyweight eyepieces. Ron at Moonlite said it was unusual for a unit to fail and in truth I dont know of anyone else having had a failure so Moonlite are fixing it for free.

A quick peek on Astropanel shows a possible clear night on Saturday evening but with the possibility of high dew. What's the betting that high dew turns to rain...

Shame about the focuser Mel at least they sound like they have some decent after sales.

Yes, Ron at Moonlite was very helpful. No one else seems ever to have had a problem so I suspect it was just an lddball. My best guess is that one of the bearings has cracked in the reduction gear.

I was stuck last night working in a tunnel underneath kensington highstreet, but when I finally came out I saw jupiter straight away.. even from central london its impressive how bright it is!
