QHY8L Ordered

Recommended Posts

nice purchase, in the market for a semi decent camera myself as my Meade died on my a few weeks ago, so much choice out there though, dslr or ccd, getiing fend up with googling all the choices. l.o.l.

I like the idea of its own power supply, no more batterys, its cooled, framing and focusing is easier, doesnt need modding etc

yes i`m torn at the moment between a Canon1100d or a resonable cooled ccd, the Brightstar mallut doesn`t look too bad for the money, cooled, own power, same chip as the Meade also, only downsize is the pixal size but on a small chip i don`t feel it`ll matter all that much, was getting some nice images with the Meade before it died, so having the same chip which is cooled i should be getting better images, was also interested in the atik tiatn but i feel that chip might be alittle too small.

I went for the QHY8L because you seem to get more for your money especially compared to the ATIK range & i read a lot of good reviews from people that own them. It was also said to me that QHY were still establishing themseleves in the market which is why they tend to be a little cheaper. Also my QHY5 has been bullit proof so my limited experience with them so far has been good.

They are a good camera I was pleased with the results I had from mine.

There is one issue to be aware of when taking Flats, leave a 3 second pause between each flat, I think this is due to the way the camera reads the data, there is a good video on You Tube / Astronomy shed on the QHY8L it will be well worth a watch.
