Should be worth the wait. I have only ever seen a pink dot. Looking forward to some polar cap action.

2014 will be slightly better than the last Martian opposition in that the apparent planetary disk will get to just over 15 arc seconds in diameter. 2018 will be much better though with the disk reaching 24 arc seconds in apparent diameter. For comparison, Jupiter's disk is currently around 48 arc seconds in diameter.

True, but for northern hemispher observers, the 2012 opposition was favorable in terms of elevation - no point in having a big disk if the planet is skimming the horizon.

Yes, quite true.

With one or two exceptions it's not a great period for planetary viewing at the current time.
