I can't imagine it really matters if the cross hairs are dead centre. Most finder scopes don't even have cross hairs. It's there to get you in the ball park. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

I bought one. The brush is a bit tough and I wouldn't use it again. I bought a "hurricane blower" instead. It's a better job. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. "Go out, look up!"

I have some dents in my dob and it doesn't affect it in the slightest. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. "Go out, look up!"

It was Orion Nebula which did it for me. It actually took me quite a while to find Saturn and Jupiter had gone for the year. My first scope was an even cheaper Argos one but as they say, the only useless scope is one which is never used! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. "Go out, look up!"

I have my iPad mounted on my 12" dob and using the StarWalk App I have my own "push-to" system. It doesn't find anything for me but puts me in the ball park. Personally I don't want a go-to but if someone wants to buy a 14" go-to dob, go outside and let the telescope do the work then fair enough. I think stargazing and astronomy are two different things. Shall I collimate or shall I not?
Ronny replied to Astro-Nova's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
I thought my 12" Dob didn't need collimated until I went out with my Society and one of the guys collimated it and the difference was tremendous. My point is it will not make your images worse by collimating it and it's unlikely it is right by chance. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk. "Go out, look up!" -
