Televue 5x Powermate V AE 5x Imagemate

Set both up on my Skywatcher Equinox 80 (500mm fl) using a Skywatcher Nirvana 7 mm eyepiece and a skywatcher 2" diagonal and 1.25" reducer in a back to back test, so magnification would be approx 357x by my calculation and Looked at Gamma Delphinus a nice tight double star

Results

Powermate showed two clearly separated circular images showing airy disks and colour

Imagemate showed a blurry dumbell shaped image

No contest.

I had thought the televue power mate reputation might have been over egged, not now, I am a believer!

Nice to read your happy with your Powermate. They are a great piece of kit eh?

I would say its the finest bit of kit in my eyepiece case, I wouldn't be without it.

That's rather disappointing from the ImageMate point of view. I'll try to remember to do the same test with my 4x this evening assuming it stays clear.

The Powermates really do have a stellar reputation. It is always interesting to hear how they stack up against the competition as I have been fortunate enough to never realy use anything else. I know I would never part with my 2x Powermate.

Based on the positive reviews I have read, I have ordered the 5x powermate for use in conjunction with a planetary imaging camera. I will post some feedback when I have the chance to use it.
