Craterlet video capture, help please.

Hi,

I'm just trying my modded web cam as i'm thinking of getting some footage of the moon tonight.

I was told to use the Craterlet software to capture my AVI video (not sure what AVI stands for btw), as it's ment to be a more beginner friendly program.

I have put the web cam into the barlow lens then into the focuser, opened Craterlet and have focused on the furthest thing i can see (a chimney). Mode is set to "Capture AVI video" and the frame rate is set at 30 and duration 20 secs.

My problem is, i can't press the "Start capture" button as it's not "lit up". What do i do to make it "light up" so i can start capture?

Odd one. If you have a live feed from the camera displaying in the preview screen there should be no reason why you cannot capture an avi (Audio Video Interleave).

Can you try Sharpcap ?

I have a live feed in the preview screen, that's what's puzzling me.

What is Sharpcap?

Hi, just seen your question and might be able to help. Sharpcap is an alternative capture programme. I`ve sometimes had trouble with Craterlet myself so I switch over to Sharpcap.

Just search the term `sharpcap` and the download page should appear.

Downloaded Sharpcap last night, absolutely brilliant. So easy to use, i'd defo recomend it to anyone beginning in AP.
