I used to own one of the 6 inch versions of these - it was my 1st proper scope back in the mid-1980's and was very well engineered. David Hind's optics have a great reputation and the simple but well engineered design works very well.

I don't think you would go far wrong in buying that setup John.

It certainly looks a simple but well engineered piece of kit. And you are right about David Hinds mirrors, so you are in no danger there.

For casual observing, it looks a dream to use. Safe and comfortable. I am sure the seller would be up for a bit of haggling, even though the price looks reasonable anyway.

It's "sale pending" now, but not from me - my daughter has just blown my astro budget on gear for her college course

Still, when she's a millionaire I'm sure she will remember the sacrifices that her old dad made

I've spoken to Ade Ashford a few times - he lives just down the road from me. He seems a decent bloke and has written reviews for many of the major astro magazines and is an editor for Sky & Telescope I believe.

A work chum of mine was clearing out his garage recently and sold a 10" version of this! If I had known more about these scopes then, well i'd have been £300 less well off.
