So should I go for the celestron nature 10x50 at £65 http://www.firstlightoptics.com/celestron-binoculars/celestron-nature-10x50-binocular.html or the Helios nature sport 10x50 at £95 http://www.firstlightoptics.com/helios/helios-naturesport-plus.html

Are the Helios £30 better, and if so how do I explain it in terms my wife will understand ;-)

Why didn't I jump at those Helios open box ones in the FLO clearance before they went... Opportunity missed.

I did and they are excellent!

I can't offer any advice as to how they compare with the Celestron's but I'm really happy with the 10x50 Helios bins and would of gladly paid the full £95 for them.

I was given a pair of these a few weeks ago for my birthday..

So far I am pretty impressed with them. Not dark enough at night to get the best out of them but daytime terrestrial viewing is promising. These I am NOT lending out to people, the last five pairs I bought I never got back.

Then I noticed this http://www.microglob...lar-p-2603.html Pentax pcf wp II for £129 at microglobe.

Would it be worth the extra £30 to move up from the helios naturesport plus to the Pentax?

IMHO, Yes, if you can afford the Pentax, go for the Pentax. The Pentax is suppose to be one of the best sub £500 10x50 according to various reviews. I have the smaller 8x40 PCF and I'm very impressed with its built as well as its optical quality. The PCF also has the best twist lock eye cup I've ever come across. The Pentax is waterproof and nitrogen purged, so you don't have to worry about internal fungal growth. Pentax also holds it's value better on the second hand market than Helios or Celestron.
