M27 - RGB + Ha

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I recently captured some hydrogen alpha data for M27: http://celestialwondersphotography.com/Blog/?p=181

That image consists of seventeen 15 minute lights at ISO 1600 with my Canon 1000D. They were taken at F/12.5 using my SW Equinox 80 with a Televue 2x 2" Powermate. I used Baader's 2" 7nm hydrogen alpha filter. I calibrated the image with 8 darks at the same exposure and ISO. Taken with my DSLR I extracted the red pixels and completely discarded the blue and green pixels.

I combined the hydrogen alpha data with some RGB data I took of M27 before I modified my camera to produce this: http://celestialwondersphotography.com/Blog/?p=190

The post in the above link contains another link to the original RGB image (my best images can be viewed in the gallery, there are links along the top of my website and blog). The RGB image was taken with the same optical setup as the hydrogen alpha but with a 2" Orion Skyglow light pollution filter instead of a hydrogen alpha filter. It consists of thirteen 10 minute exposures at ISO 1600.

Bit off topic but Holy mackerel - the nebulosity in the Pleiades shot makes it look like they are spirits flying towards you like a horror film!

Lovely photographs in your gallery!
