Well i managed, with the help of my youngest daughter,to have a look at Saturn last night,as the sky was finally clear enough

So i suppose that this is my very first, first light report.

Even though i have had the Dob now nearly three weeks last night was my first real attempt at locating Saturn which is now visible out our front window,so was observed through double glazing, but it still looked fantastic.I even saw i think, three of its moons, but that i am not sure about.

But after checking on Stellarium i think the one was Lapetus which i could just see in the bottom left corner of the EP.The other two were closer to Saturn so might have been Titan,Rhea,Dione,or Tethys, but as i say i'm not sure.

Once i'd found it i tracked it for about an hour and half and even managed to get a piccy using a compact camera but that came out a little blurred.

Then after that i dragged the Dob from the front room through the living room and out to the back garden hoping to have a look round Lyra, but after crouching over the Dob my neck gave in and i really felt ill.My neck and head still feels achy today.Do any others feel like this when using the finder scope??

Thankfully i ordered a Skywatcher right angled finderscope yesterday which has just been delivered and now i can't wait to see if it helps as i'm sure it will??

So i will be in the front window again tonight if it clears looking at Saturn again.I think its summat i will never tire of looking at.

Thanks Jeremy

I thought i was looking at Saturn when i first had the Dob a few weeks back and all i could see was a small dot and was disappointed but was told i should see the rings with the 25mm EP so knew then i was looking at the wrong star/planet.

So when i eventually saw it last night i could easily see the rings with the 25mm stock EP,and when i put my new BST8mm in well i twas just brilliant to see Sturn so close.

I had seen it before in a fellow members scope and though that was fantastic, but you can't beat seeing it for the first time through your owm equipment.

Many congratulations. I remember my first look at Saturn vividly. I was stunned that, yes, it really does look like that. And you never get tired of looking at it. In good seeing you should be able to see a number of satellites (just about seen 6, though 5 for sure, on one good night) and they move quite quickly so every night is slightly different. Always rewarding to go back to.
