Surprising what you find in an old image

Looking through some old stuff and re-processed this image of Jupiter from March 2005.

Processed it in Registax 4 instead of the original Version 3 and up popped Io, Europa and Ganymede. Had to over-process Jupiter a bit but there they are. Haven't done anything else other than Registax.

Don't think I'll get anything like it this year somehow.

This apparition is best in the summer, when the ecliptic is low for northern hemisphere observers, so you're looking through a lot of air and distortion.

Had a lot to do with it being much higher in the sky when I took that image and much better conditions.

This year I can't even see it most of the time.

The ecliptic is the Sun's path across the sky.

Most of the major planets lie in the ecliptic.
