Tripod for Skywatchers 127 GoTo Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have the Skywatchers 127 GoTo which comes with a very flimsy tripod. Does this scope central point fit any other tripods of better quality? I want to keep the GoTo that fits on using one central screw underneath the base.

I'm not aware of any alternatives that fit. However, you may find that by adding some weight to the eyepiece tray and/or filling the legs with sand you can increase its stability. The only other possibility I can think of at the moment is to rebuild your own tripod legs.

You can make up an inexpensive adaptor to fit it to an EQ5 tripod.

Or as the centre hole in the mount ( recessed ) is a standard 1/4 photo tripod type you could use a large sized photo quick release plate assembly. Fasten the QR base to the tripod and the QR plate to the mount using a long 1/4 screw. These QR assemblies can be a bit pricy though.
