Just wondering if any one knew what I would need to image in CaK as it seems a cheaper option to ha. It wont be used for visual

You'd need a dedicated scope. I know coronado do a CaK PST, not sure on other manufacturers like Lunt etc though.

You can buy the pieces to add to a regular refractor (you need an energy rejection filter and a blocking filter), but those cost about the same, if not more than a dedicated scope.

With CaK you don't need a separate ERF. This is what you're looking for.

However it's important to note that this doesn't work with many standard apo's as their drawtubes have internal baffles which prevent full insertion of the nosepiece.

I've been tempted by the Baader Ca K filter, they are pricey but do come with the Solar Film as well....

that baader is fairly reasonable. i thought as CaK isnt widely dont it would be cheaper to be honest compared to HA, is there any cheaper way than whitelight?

id love to get one of the lunts

Hi Gareth,

Just bung a Cak filter onto your camera nosepiece, put a bit of Baader Solar film (ND3.8 not the usual visual ND5.0) and you are away. Imaging use only though, not for visual.

I look at the sun through registax..... Get a DmK and don't look back! Easiest way to do cak is with the lunt cak wedge in a refractor. Visually yOu won't sEe much as your eye is insensitive, you need a camera. Wider band filters exist, e.g. Baader, but they are reckoned to give lower contrast. The cheap happy a scopes are probably the lowest entry price.
