Which is the best filter for looking at gas nebulae

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys & girls I need some help (your expert advice) on which is the best filter to use when veiwing nebulae, I have found 2 that I am torn between TS O-III filter & the Lumicon UHC filter.

But also open to any other filter you may recommend:icon_scratch:.

Cheers and look forward to reading your replies.

I would say the lumicon UHC would be the most usefull for your first one.

I agree with Nevy.

Although I prefer an O-III myself the UHC is probably a better starting block.

The UHC-S is good in smaller aperture scopes - it was designed for them I believe. It has a slightly more generous light band pass width than other UHC's which means that it does not dim the view quite as much. In a scope over 5" in aperture you might find a conventional UHC more effective.

It was a UHC-S in an ED100 refractor that first showed me the Veil Nebula so I have a soft spot for them !.
