You would need 4 tubes instead of the 3 to make sure you didnt cross the light path, but it would have been fun trying

Could you not employ a few cardboard / plastic rings around the trusses, to form a skeleton for the shroud to sit around? Might pull the shroud out of the light path?

you could do it several ways I suppose but there's a ready made alternative I think via Astroboot which is pretty cheap?
