Astronomers, beware the the beast that strikes in the night!........Early evening actually but that doesn't have the same 'ring' to it.

Our dog, not the largest of animals, has managed to overturn my HEQ5!

As if that wasn't enough, insult was added to injury by the fact that she contrived to steer the unit so that if fell onto the wife's cherished yew wood chest. :D

The domed polar scope cover has cracked and the locking screw above has sheared off level with the mount casing. The shaft that holds the legbrace/EP holder is making it's own arrangements with the perpendicular and the chest has three indentations to top front edge that weren't there before.

The drive motors appear to be OK in both RA and Dec' but I will have to wait for a clear night check that the sidereal tracking is still working.

Could have been worse (brave smile) I suppose. The canine fiend escaped unscathed from an encounter that could have resulted in decapitating. Now that would have been a real nightmare scenario! :pale:

The sums charged these days for specialist cleaning of even a small silk rug are astronomical!

Haw, C'mon CW, come clean now, you have the temerity to blame a small family pet for your clumsiness. A Ford Prefect couldn't have pushed that mount over. I think forensics should be called in to this case. If they are stumped, then I am on the hot line to Quincy.

I will not stand Idly by and see a small dog framed. :nono: :nono: :nono:

You can't pin this one on me Ron.

I was at work, miles away from the crime scene. This trivial fact did not however carry any weight with SWMBO, who, like you, appears firmly convinced that I am the villain of the peace! :p The whole affair was my fault for leaving

"That Thing" there in the first place! The fact that it had been stood in the same place for months on end has nothing to do with the matter!

The HEQ5 stands in a corner formed by the wall and the side of the bureau with a raffia waste basket in the triangle formed by it's legs, which,I will admit, are not fully extended. What seems to have happened was that the dog was rummaging around in the basket and when withdrawing her head the chain on her collar caught on the wing of a locking screw on one of the legs. I imagine the 'terrier side' took over and she just kept going! :D

CW the innocent.

With a sense of compassion I unreservedly withdraw my accusation of your complicity in this matter. I do so, on the grounds that, "That thing", and similar remarks, which can cut one to the quick, are all too familiar to myself. So, having heard the mitigating circumstances, you are hereby exonerated from any wrongdoing. Of course, no repercussions towards that poor little dog, who was probably startled into the damaging action, by SWMBO's loud shriek of "get out of there you useless mutt".

Let us all consider the matter closed.

So sorry about the damage to HEQ5. by the way.

Ron. :D

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes... I don't know which could be worse... the accident itself or the .... "oh honey... erm...can we talk?" moment

Did it have the counterweights on at the time ? One hell of a shove to topple one of those!
