Lovely job, to get rid of the grainy black patch just use the clone stamp tool and select the clean area of your background and gently brush that area back to the background status using a soft edge brush and a lower opacity and flow. Its all just practice in the end but that's a great image with lovely colour and detail.

Been a nightmare recently. After those 5 clear nights in a row I haven't had a sniff of getting the scope out.

I am not familiar with your type of scope but could there be a bit of coma going on? Not that it matters one bit really, the galaxy is superb!
