Altitude Adjustment T-bolts - Thread Stripped

Hi

So on my EQ6 after 3 years one of the Altitude Adjustment T-bolts

has stripped the thread on the mount. Now the mount its self is quite soft as we know. So what size is the thread in MM what size should I tap a new thread to be do I do it 3, 4, 5 mm above the original etc ?

I would say go to a garage and see if you can get a heli-coil put in.

Makes sense, what size does the hole need to be tapped out to.

Well heli-coil come in all sizes so if you take the bolt with you it will end up the same size as it was.

So the coil effectively taps its own way into the mount ?

You tap out the hole to the next size up and the heli-coli fit in the hold to bring in back down to the same size it all ready tap out.

Yes if you can get one As thay come in a tray of about 50 of all sizes.

But have a look on the net for Heli-coils ,A Garage may sell you one. PS I think you had to get a left hand tap to fit it.

a quick look on the net shows them everywhere and not really expensive. If I understand correctly you tap out a new thread and then apply the coil ?

So next question what size do we tap out the hole to ?

The only way I can tell you with seeing hold is,

Do you have a taps set if so you have size bit in the kit.

If not you have two Altitude Adjustment T-bolts holds hope may be the same size?

use a tap in this hole to get the size,

oder part for that size of tap and it will give you the out side one on the packet.

Yeah, for the odd heli-coil job, think I'd rather just take it to someone & get it done. Better off getting both done while you're at it.
